Every member of the Golden Paddle Adventures team, from guides to owners, is either a current or graduated student of the Adventure Tourism and Business Operations program, run by the College of the Rockies, in Golden. The brain child of James and Aja, GPA was created to capitalise on the high level of training the students receive during the two year guiding program. All of our guides hold a Recreational Canoe Association of British Columbia instructors rating and an advanced, 90 hour Wilderness First Aid qualification. Most will also have guides qualifications in other areas such as sea kayaking and white water rafting, so you are in very safe hands!
After 5 years working as a Tour Leader, guiding groups of upto 50 people around Europe for a month, James realised how much he missed the mountains. Originally from the UK, he decided it was time to start guiding where his passion lay, in the Canadian wilderness.
Having spent the summer guiding multi day canoeing and backpacking trips in the Yukon, he returned to school full of ideas for his business and marketing classes. Turns out, he thinks they might actually work, so Golden Paddle Adventures was born!
Originally from Ontario, Aja moved to Canmore in 2014 to be closer to the mountains. After several years of spending every moment she could outside, she decided that she wanted to get paid to be out there so she signed up for the Adventure Tourism program to help her realise her dreams.
Aja and James both started in the same year and worked together on the various school projects that spawned Golden Paddle Adventures
