Where To Go

Here are a few of our favourite lakes in the area that aren't too far away. Choosing is going to be tough, but with some good choices you should be able to visit a few in a day.

Distance from Golden: 10km

Just out of Golden, Cedar Lake Recreation Site is our closest lake that also has a campground on it's shores. And a pretty awesome rope swing that's definitely not for the faint hearted!

Distance from Golden: 65km

One of the Instagram favourites for a reason, Emerald Lake is nestled in the mountains of Yoho National Park that comes with stunning views.

Distance from Golden: 80km

Quite possibly one of the world's most famous lakes, and for good reason. Although very easily accessible, parking can be tough and getting a canoe to the lake, a challenge with the crowds. This is more suitable for SUP rentals.

It might seem far, but the drive to Bow Lake, up the Icefields Parkway, is probably just as iconic as the lake. With a short gravel road just south of the main pullout on the highway, access is to the water's edge is super easy.

This stunning lake will blow your mind, and your friend's minds when they see the photos. With limited parking at this popular lake, getting there early is definitely worth it

Distance from Golden: 80km

You can't drive all the way to this lake, but you can get a bus the last 12km, if you book in advance. This does mean that you can't bring a canoe, unless of course you fancied an epic portage in and out. SUPs are fine though.
